Sensory Path
Thank you for talking to your class about our new sensory path on Monday (5/9). Below are a few talking points to address during your class meeting.
Common Language
It will be important to have common language and understanding about the path's purpose & use. Using the path is not about "getting the wiggles out" or burning energy. It is about re-energizing for learning.
Common Procedure
Every classroom will have one lanyard (it will say, "I'm using the sensory path"). This is for one student to use at a time per class.
Your class's lanyard will be in your mailbox (one per Y5 - 5th grade classroom, one for MC, one for art room, one for music room, and one for gym).
You will want to discuss when it is appropriate to use the path (like you do with bathroom use). This likely won't be during mini-lessons, but rather during independent work times and/or on a schedule (for specific students).
Sensory Path Expectations (Gen. Ed. classroom teachers, please share directly with all students Monday)
*Use the path quietly and by yourself. If others are using the path from a different class, continue moving forward without a voice at your own pace.
*Begin anywhere on the path and move through it one time.
The path is to be used during "empty hallway time" - not while classes are transitioning (after recess, on the way to a special, etc.)
*Students will wear the class lanyard while using the path.*At the end students should have a cool down breathing moment where they ask themselves, "Am I ready to learn?"
Please click here for the demonstration video to show to your students on Monday. It explains the use and expectations of our newly installed sensory track. Thank you for leading this work, Stephanie and Tech Team students!
Brown School Art Show - message to parents
In appreciation of our beautiful student artwork, we will hold the first Elementary Art Show at Brown Elementary School! You, your family, and your friends are invited to the opening reception Thursday, May 12th, from 4:00 – 5:30 PM. The opening reception is a celebration to mark the start of the show. You may stop in ANY TIME during the opening to see both your child’s artwork and artwork from other elementary students in our school. We hope to see you there!
This art show will be on display at Brown School until Wednesday, June 1st. If you are unable to come to the opening, please make sure you stop by to see your child’s work before the 1st of June during after school hours. Thank you for all your hard work. We are very proud of YOU and your success in art! |

Summer Learning Opportunities
We are gearing up for summer and that means extending learning options to all learners. Please see the information below and be sure to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions.
Summer Learning Challenge 2022
We are planning to challenge our learners throughout the summer again this year with the brilliantly paired P2 and SLC format we offered last year.
Please take a moment to add ideas for suggested tweaks (just to make it new and fresh for our students who participated last year) as a comment to the DRAFT doc linked here by May 20th. Thank you!
Please plan to send home Scholastic take-home book packs with all ECDD - 5th grade students on June 8th. We will make arrangements to attach the Summer Learning Challenge sheets (just like last year).
Summer Reading & Math Camp
The posting for interested staff and the student recommendation document will be coming soon. We are looking forward to offering a consistent and engaging option to our students in need this summer. More to come very soon.
End of the Year Party @ Pratleys! Our EOY staff celebration will be hosted by Kristen & Andrew Pratley at their home (3035 McLin Rd. in SJ) on Thursday, June 2nd beginning at 5:30 p.m. We will use social funds to cover the dinner. BYOB and mark your calendars, friends!
