Spirit Days

The Brown School Student Council has planned an exciting week for our students and staff. We hope you will all participate in the fun!

Brown Elementary Art Show

In appreciation of our beautiful student artwork, we will hold the first Elementary Art Show at Brown Elementary School! You, your family, and your friends are invited to the opening reception Thursday, May 12th, from 4:00 – 5:30 PM. The opening reception is a celebration to mark the start of the show. You may stop in ANY TIME during the opening to see both your child’s artwork and artwork from other elementary students in our school. We hope to see you there!

This art show will be on display at Brown School until Wednesday, June 1st. If you are unable to come to the opening, please make sure you stop by to see your child’s work before the 1st of June during after school hours. Thank you for all your hard work. We are very proud of YOU and your success in art!

Specials Make-Up Changes

June 1st will be a specials make-up day for a full-day of specials from Monday, Jan. 17th. 

June 8th will also be a make-up for afternoon specials on June 9th.

Foundation Teacher Grants

SJ Teachers,

Use our easy to complete Google Form to apply for a teacher grant. Grant recipients will be announced at the 2022-23 SJPS Staff opening breakfast. Not sure if your project falls under the Teacher Grant category? Call or email Sue Reimland to discuss possibilities.  Check out our grants page to view previous grant recipients and projects.

Student Placement Meetings

In order to minimize time outside of the school day with placement meetings, Joe Rommel and I are hoping to meet with grade level teams during your common plan time on Tuesday, May 24th. This will be a great opportunity for him to learn more about our students' academic, social, and emotional considerations.  

The placement document will be shared with you soon. To expedite our time together, please plan to have student data entered and tentative class assignments made in advance of our time together. At this point you can plan on the following section numbers:

Y5/K - TBD (likely 1 Y5, 2 K)

5th - 3

Why Teachers Matter When we find ways to integrate service projects into our content, our students develop skills and compassion. Thank you for finding creative ways to make an impact on your students and the community.

Reason #89: Teachers help us start again.

Thea remembers Mrs. Burney:   "When I was 16, a fire started in the basement of my home. My family got out safely, but we lost our home and everything in it. I was devastated. We stayed with friends, and the people at our church generously donated items to help us start over. I was grateful for the help, but nothing really felt like mine. I had been taking a fashion design class at my high school. When my teacher, Mrs. Burney, heard about the fire, she decided the class would start a new project. Each of the 12 students would design a piece of clothing especially for me. They interviewed me about my favorite colors and styles, and they excitedly shared their sketches with me. My classmates worked for weeks bringing their designs to life. I had fittings, and they tailored the clothes perfectly for me. When my friends in the fashion design class finished their projects, I had a wardrobe of beautiful skirts, tops, and dresses, all made with love. I thought I’d never really recover from the fire, but I finally had clothes that felt like mine again. I’m still amazed at the thoughtful way Mrs. Burney used that project to combine learning and service. She made an undeniable impact on my life at a time when I needed it most." Keep going.
