What brings you joy? How do you work to intentionally bring it into your life? One of Kristin Anderson's quotes frequently swirls in my head, "I can't control it so I am not going to let it suck my joy." There is so much power in that statement.
Have you called the Success Hotline lately? Those few minutes during your drive might just give you the inspiration to help you seize the day in a whole new way.Success Hotline (973-743-4690)
Thank you for affording our students the opportunity to "Lunch with Friends", Megan, Carol & Stephanie!
Count Day Reminders
As a reminder, we will need classroom teachers to mark students "present" with a "P" and mark all other absences as you would have in the past all of next week (Monday, October 4th - Friday, October 8th). The exception is ON count day - see details below.
Below are directions that should make this process a little quicker and easier. You can auto-fill an entire column with P's, with a double click of the mouse at the top of the column and then change only those who are absent.
*ON count day (October 6th) do not mark tardies. P or A only. Thank you!
Like last year, we are using the 2020 NWEA Map Norms to compare achievement
status, and changes in achievement status (growth), to students’ performance in the same
grade at a comparable stage of the school year or across two test events within or across
school years.
Due to absences, some of our students did not complete testing by Friday. That's ok - please prioritize completion as soon as they return and let Kristen know when your class is finished. Thank you!
Don't forget to sign your contract and return it to Kristen as soon as possible. Thank you!

These are our Brown School Commitments (norms). What did your team commit to? Please be sure your Team Mission document is saved in your grade level folder within the Brown School Staff folder in the Drive.
Let's be intentional about our commitments to each other - not just during the meeting, but as we work and learn together everyday. Be open about your needs and questions, we learn from conversation.

Tier II SEL Support
Bri is working with Lory's Place to begin scheduling support groups for students in need. In addition, she will begin reaching out to families the about meeting with students in need of support in the Changing Families group. TRAILS groups will likely begin after the Holiday break and will run for 10 weeks (one time per week) for 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders in need of this support - more to come on that. She will also host a group of students in grade level bands to practice their social competencies while playing board games.
In an effort to keep consistency for everyone (including our learners), her Tier II groups will meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. on a rotating basis. We recognize that some of your students will likely miss a morning meeting & the beginning of day procedures in your classroom, which is tough. However, rest assured, they will be gaining skills and support to navigate the day. Thank you for your commitment to the social - emotional growth of our learners.
Bucks for Brown Event & Information
Thank you for inspiring your students and families to raise money for our school! Your support means so much.
We are so excited for our first ever Bucks for Brown celebration Fun Run on Friday afternoon! This event has been two years in the making, with hard work and planning from many dedicated committee members. Below is the schedule for the event, so you can see when each grade will be on the track that afternoon. There will be several stations throughout the track to keep kids motivated to walk or run, along with some fun music! Our football readers will join us for the excitement as well.
It will conclude with an all-school assembly inside the track at 3pm. The assembly will likely take 15-20 minutes - just in time for our shuttle riders to load up and head out. A map will be shared with you so that you know where your class should sit.
We can't wait to celebrate the collective, community effort that supports our programming!

Classroom Celebrations
This pandemic has caused so much stress to us, our students, and their families. We believe it is essential to pause, celebrate, and build positive memories together. Please ask your families and volunteers to mark their calendars for the following dates:
Fall Harvest Costume Celebration: Oct. 29th (PM)
Costume parade around track outside @ 3:15 (families welcome to take pictures - no background check needed for parade session)
Winter Themed/"New Year New You" Parties: Dec 17th (AM)
Holiday Fine Arts Concert planned for 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. (grade levels attending TBD)
Valentines/Kindness Themed Celebrations: Feb 14th (p.m.) (corrected date)
*As a reminder, all volunteers must have a background check on file in the school office. These must be updated annually and take up to 30 days to process.
