Bucks for Brown
Our PTO has put together a simple, passive spring fundraiser to ensure our operating budget for next
school year is secure. Essentially, they are asking families for donations for our school from March 12 - 26. We will not be able to have our one day walk-a-thon event as anticipated this year (hence the books instead of the running shoes in the logo), but hope to be able to launch that exciting event next fall. More details will be coming soon - just wanted to keep you in the loop.

Ren Baldwin Student Technology Festival is now open and accepting entries. A virtual, interactive website event will launch on Friday, May 7th to showcase student projects and serve as the festival's venue for this year.

Categories, submission procedures, and prizes are the same as in past years.  Please visit the 2021 RB Tech Fest Informational Website for more information.  I will also share more at our March 25th technology meeting.  In the meantime, please reach out if you have any questions.  As always, we can't wait to see the amazing projects your students will create.  The entry deadline is April 15th.

March is Reading Month!

Wow - Connie and Jen have been busy planning an awesome experience for our students! Thank you!

March is Reading Month and this year we are celebrating with a March Reading Madness tournament of books. When the teams battle for their spots in the final four, our kids will be reading and voting for their favorite books to make it to the championship round. Fortunately no brackets can be busted since your kids will be reading nothing but great books. This month will be nothing but NET (New Exciting Titles)! For more information, visit our March Reading Madness website.

M-STEP Testing
We learned this week that a "blanket" waiver to excuse students from taking a statewide standardized assessment (M-STEP) was not granted by the federal government, though a guarantee was made to allow flexibility in how/when to assess. Additionally, we learned that school accountability would not be a factor this year. The State is still actively pursuing flexible options - more to come on this. At this point, we have to plan to assess our 3-5 grade students and will wait to hear more.

Celebrating Authors of Color and Their Works of Literature

February is a month-long celebration of African American history. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and the Library of Michigan provided weekly calendars celebrating African American authors and their noted literacy works. These works reflected nominations from educators across the state. The set of weekly calendars remain available on MDE’s website. In addition to the weekly calendars and to continue the celebration, MDE is pleased to share the Celebrating Authors of Color and Their Works of Literature document.
