Valentine's Day
The following information will be posted in this week's family blog in regards to Valentine's Day:
February 14th is quickly approaching and of course, things this year will be a little different. It just so happens that the 14th is on a Sunday this year and students do not have school on Friday the 12th or on Monday the 15th. So, hold off on the candy and packaged valentines, here is the plan...During the week of February 8 - 11, our Positivity Project (P2) activities will be focused on "Love." Their definition of love is that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships.
Classes will have activities and lessons throughout the week that will take the place of the traditional card exchange. No need to send anything in from home, we will handle it all in-house.
If you want to look ahead at family activities and connections for that week, remember you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Improving Working Memory
I've been reflecting on our powerful learning over the past few years and am aiming to circle back to powerful strategies we have learned and practiced together in the next few blog posts. Eric Jensen's work taught us about the importance of improving working memory - especially among our students who struggle with chronic stress. If you have a minute or two to spare during a transition time or are looking for something powerful to add in during snack time, please check out the working memory games linked here! In addition, they are a perfect daily intervention for our at-promise students!
Kagan Corner

Using a structure like Quiz-Quiz-Trade affords 100% of your class the opportunity to be engaged in practicing content at any one moment in time. 100%!! WHOA! Here are a few snapshots of 2nd graders practicing the standard 2.NBT.8 as they mentally added 100 to the number on the card & shared their thinking with their partner. What ideas do you have to take an independent practice activity and "Kaganize" it?!
