Spring Conferences

Our Spring Parent/Teacher conference window opens on Thursday, January 28th.  January 28th and 29th will be half days.  Please plan to conference the bottom 30% of your class, inclusive of those who need high levels of academic or social-emotional levels of support.

Everyone should plan on virtual conferences. Here are some options for how you might proceed:

  1.  Virtual - Google Meet with regular conference format (20 minute rule of thumb with the understanding that some need more and some may need less).

  1. Student-led opportunities - prepare students for a performance review that they can help lead. The parent can be an active participant in a progress conference between student and teacher.

  1. Two 10-minute check-ins within January 28 and end of February.

Please let me know who you plan to meet with and when you complete your meetings. Also, please let me know if you have other ideas for conferences. I would love to learn new ideas from you!

How do you work to ensure all student voices are heard and celebrated? Here are a few things I saw as I walked about this week...

We need your help!
As you know, our amazing custodians have several extra responsibilities due to COVID-19 protocols. Please empower your learners to tidy their work spaces, clean up the floor, and take care of belongings throughout the day - especially before heading home. This will help to lighten their load, while teaching our students to demonstrate respect & responsibility. Teamwork is the key and students of all ages will benefit from this high expectation and daily routine. Thank you!

Valentine's Day
Plans are underway to celebrate Valentine's Day via the P2 character strength "love" the week of February 8th. More details will come about classroom celebrations, but please plan to communicate to your families that we will not be passing valentines from home out of respect for others' comfort and safety. Building in opportunities throughout that week to make valentines for each other is a great way to utilize "work on writing" time during class.

In this TED Talk Malcolm Mitchell, former New England Patriot and recent author, shares his journey trough adverse situations and his choice to "be the coffee bean". While his message is inspirational and uplifting, this one is for adults only. Enjoy!
