Congratulations to Daniyah!
She was named the "Smart Girl of the Year" at Thursday's Passport to Manhood & Smart Girls program graduation ceremony at the Boys & Girls Club.

St. Joe Challenge Coins 

Law enforcement agencies, as well as military personnel often use "challenge coins" to show appreciation to others for going above and beyond. We plan to honor our amazing staff members throughout the district who go the extra mile, are innovative, and/or inspire others to be great by passing St. Joe Challenge Coins throughout the district. This movement is meant to shine a light on our ideals of innovation and progressive education here in St. Joe.

As you can imagine, distributing these coins will incredibly challenging as you all inspire others every single day. Therefore, after receiving a coin, hold onto it for a few days, then pass it along to someone who has modeled inspiration, innovation, and dedication. Our goal is to pass the coins throughout the district, celebrating each other.

 

"BUCKS FOR BROWN" IS COMING NEXT FALL 

We’d like to share some exciting news! Brown PTO and the Walk-a-Thon committee have been hard at work designing a new walk-a-thon fundraising event called Bucks for Brown.

This event will replace our current three week walk-a-thon and make it possible to hold our main fundraiser in an exciting ONE day event. Families will be invited to come cheer on our runners on a fun-filled afternoon in October as we raise money for our amazing school.

Not to worry, students will still have the opportunity to earn charms and achieve fitness goals twice per year (fall and spring) during Mileage Club.

Brown School Playground Update - Summer 2020

We have more amazing news to share...Brown School will be gifted a playground makeover this summer! Through the generous support of our community in passing "sinking funds" bond proposals, district finances will be allocated to create a new playscape for Brown School students. Our hope is to have updated equipment, shade for students and a walking track makeover. More details to come soon. 

Maker Day 2020 

Y5-2nd grade teachers, please sign up session offerings on Thursday, March 5th here. Like last year, many of the primary Maker Day sessions will be held in students' classrooms, however some will be throughout the school. Please look at the location on the Google sheet. 

Students in grades 3rd-5th will be signing up for their individual options (like last year) via a google form.  Andrew will share a link to the form to be shared via Google classrooms. Look for that to come soon. Fifth graders will have first option, then the link will be shared with fourth, followed by third. It will be another great event! 

March is Reading Month! 

Thank you to all who donned your masks and capes and helped Connie to capture some footage for the big unveiling! It is going to be a GREAT month of celebrating the joy of reading. Look for additional details to come from the media department. 

Tardies
I thoroughly understand how busy classrooms are first thing in the morning (and all day) - just want to remind you to please mark students "tardy" when they arrive between 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. Thank you for your help with this. 😊

Read by Grade Three Survey
Education Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC) at Michigan State University is launching its first ever statewide Read by Grade Three survey for current K-8 teachers and principals, superintendents, and ISD Early Literacy Coaches.

We hope you will take the survey, which can be accessed here: https://msu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9p2rheudlTRAZwx

We know that educators’ time is extremely valuable, so we’ve worked with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) to offer 5 hours of State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for completing this approximately 25-minute survey. As educators, your insights are extremely valuable to understanding how this consequential education policy is being implemented. We encourage you to respond to this survey so that your voices can be heard in Lansing and beyond.

Participants will need their PIC to complete the survey and be awarded SCECHs, but responses will be kept strictly confidential and all responses will be summarized such that no individuals or schools can be identified. The survey results will be used in EPIC’s study to inform policy and practice by partners.
