| Congratulations on your engagement, Kim and Blake! We couldn't be happier for you two! |
We are pleased to welcome Mr. Dan Hernandez to Brown School as Social-Emotional Learning/Behavior support paraprofessional. Dan recently completed his student teaching at Lincoln School where he made many positive connections with his 5th grade students. He graduated from Central Michigan University in December with a teaching degree and is eager to begin his journey in education. We look forward to welcoming him to our school family.
We are equally excited to welcome Miss Carissa Campbell as a student teacher with Linda this semester. Carissa joins us from Central Michigan University. She has a passion for early childhood education and will undoubtably have a wonderful learning experience at Brown School. Welcome, Carissa!

Reviewing Expectations
This week is the perfect time to pause and review our common area expectations with our students. Kelly N. shared this "Find Someone Who" sheet with us years ago - thank you!
Please take a few moments to review the playground expectations (below) and other common areas (linked here) as well.
Coach's Corner
What I’ve been up to:
- Supporting implementation of new phonemic awareness curricular resources (Heggerty)
- Supporting planning for a teacher’s implementation of book clubs- Mission: Inspire readers
- Modeling powerful literacy practices: read alouds, small groups, vocabulary instruction
- Thinking outside the box with teachers about how they can connect with their grade-level teammates in other buildings
I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Making Connections with Greetings at the Door
While scrolling my Twitter feed over the break, I came across the video linked below. As we know, making students feel supported, welcomed and appreciated the moment they enter our classrooms is key in providing emotional safety. I felt an enormous sense of pride for our staff as this has been a focus for us and has become our daily routine at Brown School. Greeting students at eye level was an "ah-ha" for me. What are your thoughts?
