We Need Your Input
Below is a link to a survey that Amanda Lezotte from Berrien RESA has asked all staff attending Tuesday's SI/Staff meeting to complete. This will help to guide her ongoing work with us in order to best support our needs. The first 10 minutes of our meeting will be devoted to looking at trends in your feedback. Thank you!
Welcome to Brown School Dan!
Dan Hernandez will join our amazing Brown School staff in January as a Social-Emotional Learning/Behavior support parapro. Dan just completed his student teaching at Lincoln School where he made many positive connections with his 5th grade students. While his home base will be in Stephanie's classroom, he will also serve as a check-in person with our most at-promise learners and with those that benefit from sensory/learning walks. We look forward to welcoming him to our school family.
Holiday Concert Seating
Brown School will occupy the entire left side of the auditorium (when looking at the stage). We will move from second grade up to fifth when filling into our seats. The show

Self-Regulation Support
Kelly recently attended a workshop where she learned about self-regulation and support of our most at-promise students. Inspired by the messages that she heard, she shared the video linked below. It's a lengthy one, but full of important messages.

One major take-away that Kelly shared was that over 50% of our language delayed students end up with behavior issues later in life. Remember, behavior is communication. Framing messages as "what do you need?" rather than "what is wrong with you?" goes a long way.
In Celebration of the Work You All Do Everyday...
While I was the lucky recipient of the email found below, it is truly a testament of all that you do everyday - of your dedication to the students that we all so passionately serve.
I just wanted you to know two awesome things that happened this week that made me so happy as a mom of students at Brown and also as someone who gets the privilege of working here everyday.
First, I received a wonderful email from my child's teacher. It was a thoughtful note full of compliments about him. That evening, as I was looking on Facebook, I noticed that another mom in his class had shared an email that she had written to her about her son. She was thrilled to get the note and was bragging the teacher up. Thought you'd like to know.
Second, as I was working in first grade today, one of my students was getting teary eyed because he said, "I can't read the big words." The other two students in the group chimed right in with encouraging words that clearly reflected a growth mindset. They were saying things like, "It's ok to not get it right the first time, my teacher says to take a deep breath and try again. It's going to be ok. Keep working on it and it will get easier. We are proud of you for trying. You're doing awesome."
That warmed my heart and took his tears away.
