Thank you to those of you who have graciously invited me to spend time working with you! I’m excited about our learning together this year! I just returned from 4 days of learning with an awesome K-2 team, Heather Bartz, Kim Barron, and Julia Appel. Our brains and hearts are full...we learned from researchers and literacy experts about the 10 essential literacy practices that every child should experience everyday! Essential 2 is all about the interactive read aloud. Below are two suggestions to take your Benchmark read aloud to the next level and yield higher student achievement and engagement!
*Connect the comprehension strategies you’re working on to a high-interest topic through the use of a text set (a set of texts, by various authors, on the same topic).
*Plan for explicit instruction around comprehension and don’t forget about the importance of collaborative practice, too!

IRIP Spreadsheet
K-3 teachers and Kelly M.: once fall F & P levels are confirmed, please enter them in the "Brown IRIP List 2019-20" spreadsheet that was shared with you on Monday. This will expedite the IRIP identification process. We are planning a day with sub coverage to meet with families (similar to an IEP day). I will get you the date and the names of students once confirmed. Thank you!
The Read at Home resource that was developed by Kent ISD is a terrific resource for all young readers and is available by clicking here. This is shared with our families that meet with us to develop an individualized reading improvement plan (IRIP).
As a reminder, the criteria in the flowchart below is what we follow to determine whether or not an IRIP is needed for a student in grades K-3.
Inter-Richment Schedule and Learning Lab Sign-Up
Thank you to our Title team and classroom teacher teams for working collaboratively to develop our support schedules linked below. Please add student names to the Learning Lab spreadsheet once determined who should attend to work on MobyMax or Core5.
Transportation Clap-Out
In celebration of Bus Driver Appreciation Day on October 16th, we will be welcoming our amazing van, bus, and shuttle drivers in to the lounge after drop-off to enjoy breakfast from the PTO. At 9:30 (late start day), we will line the 4th/5th grade hall and cross halls leading out to the Y5/K hallway and clap for our drivers. If you would like to make cards in your classroom, I am sure they would LOVE them. We will plan to hang a banner in the lounge. The drivers names are:
