Empathy v. Sympathy
Check out this excellent example of the power of empathy by Brene Brown.

Just a reminder...in order to ensure that our students are experiencing the same curricular opportunities district-wide, you are required to use the district provided materials and resources. While Teachers Pay Teachers and other websites similar to that may have quality resources aligned to the CCSS, their overuse leads to incongruent learning across grade level teams. Supplemental resources must be vetted by our curriculum office and teams. Thank you for your attention to this.

Field Trips
This is a busy time of year for field trips. Please be sure to submit transportation requests at least 2 weeks before your scheduled trip. Feel free to check on previously scheduled transportation requests with Sara ahead of time and notify Sue Punches if you have a field trip that runs over lunch and will affect her order and/or lunch time.

Thank you for your patience and kindness
with our students even as spring fever ramps up.

The following paragraph will be shared with families this weekend in our school blog:

Warm Weather Protocol
It looks like spring has sprung! With the fluctuation of temperatures throughout the day, please be sure your child is prepared to participate in three outdoor recesses daily. While there is not student handbook language related to exact temperatures appropriate for students to wear shorts, a good rule of thumb is 60 degrees, though we trust that you know your child and his/her needs. It is always a good idea to dress your child in layers this time of year. Please be sure to label all jackets with your child's name.

Guess Who?
You guessed it - our last featured star was Kelly Nimtz. This week's featured Brown School Superstar...

loves to clean and organize while listening to audiobooks.

loves to eat anything pork, candied carrots, real NY cheesecake, breakfast anything, and cheese.

loves to watch baseball because the strategies that the managers use to win games puts more than athletic talent to the test.

would like to visit Disney World with her grandchildren, Montreal, Quebec, and Mt. Rushmore.

Kudos and Thank You to...

Kelly M., Carol, Stephanie, Kristi and Elizabeth for their participation in our on-site LLI visit.

Sarah for arranging for her students to learn with Jane Goodall - so cool!

Sara for all of her hard work to set up M-STEP testing and to Kent and Becky for setting a positive tone and supporting their students with the first set of assessments.

SJPS Maintenance Dept. for installing our highly anticipated teeter-totter over spring break. Woohoo!

Kelly N., Alyssa, and Becky for learning alongside of me at the recent Literacy Summit in Lansing.

Our amazing custodial staff for always working so hard to make our learning environment so beautiful.
