News for February 4, 2019
Welcome back! What a wild week of wintery weather!
This is such an optimal time of year for our students at all levels to experience growth. Thank you for partnering with your colleagues and encouraging our young scholars to seize every opportunity for deep levels of learning.
Not a lot of new information for this coming week as we haven't been together this week. The first grade musical has been rescheduled to 9:00 on February 14th. In addition, Kindness Week will begin Monday, February 4th instead. IEP meetings are being rescheduled. Please look for a google invitation from Sherry Fudge if you were planning to meet on Friday morning.

Core5 Update
As I prepare for my mid-year data call with the Lexia Core5 trainer, I was incredibly encouraged by how grade levels are collectively closing the achievement gap through daily practice and intervention on skills that require additional support.
Below is our school-wide graph representing students with skills represented below, on, and above grade level. Shrinking that gray bar and increasing the blue bars! Way to go, Team Brown!
Way to go, fourth grade team - closing the gap with fewer and fewer students at "high risk" for meeting end-of-year grade-level benchmarks due to meeting usage goals and participating in intervention (see graph below).
Kevin and Rick for the heroic snow blowing and shoveling work this week! PHEW!
Our Safe & Civil Schools team (Caroline, Stephanie, Morgan,
Kelly N., Sarah and Natalie) for planning our staff meeting regarding recess expectations. Due to the snow day, we will circle back to that at an upcoming meeting. :)
Elizabeth, Stephanie, and Kelly for sharing their knowledge and success regarding our LLI implementation.
Kristi, Sandy, and Carol for working so hard on progress monitoring our at-promise readers and mathematicians. Teachers, remember that the data is live (meaning graphs are updated automatically as interventionists add the numbers in the charts) and is always available to your team for planning and reflection in your shared grade level Tier III folder in google.
Becky for organizing the recycling team and Student Council.
Stephanie for leading the Grizzly Tech Team.
Jen and Elizabeth for hosting the student book club at lunch.
Kim, Caroline, Beth & Linda for mentoring our newest staff members.
Books by the Bushel is offering a contest to win free books and build your classroom library.
Great news! The Foundation graciously granted funds to expand our 4th and 5th grade classroom libraries district-wide. The books have been ordered and we are looking forward to getting them in our students hands soon!
Guess Who...
In our last edition of "Guess Who" we featured Sue Riemland as our mystery staff member. Aren't we so lucky to have her energy, positivity, and support right here at Brown School?
This week's featured staff member...
loves to watch MASH, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Guy's Grocery Games, and Property Brothers.
enjoys reading Counting by Sevens by Holly Goldberg Sloan because it is a "very sweet book about how kindness can change a life".
is afraid of squirrels because they have no fear.
loves penguins, lobsters, and okapi.
