Read Across Michiana Marathon
Brown School was selected by WNDU's meteorologist Cindi Clawson to be a "Read Across Michiana Marathon" school! How exciting! She is coming to read to our school to read to all classes on November 7th from 1:00-1:25 p.m. in the gym.

We will have all 1st-5th grade cold lunch eaters enjoy their lunches in their classrooms that day in order for Rick to be able to clean and set up for Ms. Clawson's visit on time.

Due to this, we have rescheduled the walk-a-thon celebration and news broadcast for that day. Instead, we will announce top runners/walkers and celebrate meeting our school-wide goals with a cupcake celebration on Friday, November 9th at 11:30 a.m.

Congratulations to Stephanie!
Stephanie was recently published in the blog, Big Deal Media, where she shared the vacation blog assignment that she gives to students who miss school in order to travel with their families. We are so proud to work alongside such an innovator and author!

Walk-a-Thon Celebration
Our students will be treated to cupcakes from Gabrielle Bishop's bakery in celebration of their collective work toward our school wide goal. Please have students enjoy their treat during the celebration news broadcast on November 9th at 11:30 (note date/time change due to Cindi Clawson's visit). Allergy safe options will be available - please let Sara know who may require a different selection.

Halloween Party Logistics

With this likely being the last year for Halloween-themed parties, we will still plan to have the traditional Brown School Halloween Parade at the end of the day. Please see the logistics for that afternoon below.

2:00 All school recess (everyone on 2:15 & 2:30 duty will go out)

Kids who need to change into costumes will do so at this time. Parents will set up classroom parties at this time.

2:15-3:15 classroom parties - unless other arrangements have been made due to specials

3:15 1st- 5th Grade Parade - All classes line up in the hallway along the wall at 3:15 and keep walking in a line. Here is the route:
  • Lignell to begin - heading toward the 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade hallway, turning left by Stephanie and Amber's rooms
  • Lokey adds to the end of Lignell’s line
  • Hassenger adds next
  • Nimtz next
  • Brown
  • Lear
  • Nowicki
  • Grimm
  • Zelenock
  • Danapilis
  • Barron
Kent’s class leads the way to the walking track from the door by Danapilis/Barron’s rooms. Do 1/2 a loop (cutting across the grass) head in by 4th/5th grade door, following along and going back to classes to change out of costumes (only if they are bus riders- car riders do not need to change).

In the event of inclement weather, we will follow the same path through the building, but looping by Danapilis/Barron’s door, turning down the hall toward the gym, entering through the gym doors nearest the office, exiting the door by Rank’s room and heading back to class. If the weather is not cooperating, I will make an announcement to tell you whether we will be inside or out for the parade.

Reminders:
*Be sure to remind students to take costumes home!
*Please ask parents who volunteered for the party to clean up while you are staging in the hallway for the parade.
*Parents who are at the parade/party must meet you back in the classroom to take their child(ren) home.  *If possible have your class pack up prior to 2:00 so that the end of the day craziest is a bit less chaotic.

More Books are Coming to 4th and 5th grade classrooms!

The SJPS Foundation generously funded our recent grant to increase the choice and volume of our fourth and fifth grade classrooms district-wide. We are eager to get books ordered and in our students' hands.
