As a follow-up from our staff meeting conversation, please be sure to mark a student tardy if he/she arrives to the classroom after the 8:30 bell. If you mark a student absent and they arrive after 8:45 a.m. Kathy will override the absence to a tardy.

As a reminder. . . we never prop open our exterior doors!  Please remind our students about this, too!

Top 10 in 10
In this edition of Chief Deputy Superintendent Sheila Alles’ Top 10 in 10 in 2 podcast, she shares the importance of meeting the needs of the “Whole Child.” By focusing on the “Whole Child,” we will shape the kind of learners and learning that will help make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years.

Foundation Grant Applications
Just a reminder – Teacher Grant Applications are due May 7, 2018 by email.  If you are having difficulty using the fillable PDF form sent out on March 27th, feel free to use the Google Doc found here.

Lexia Update
WHOA! Look at this progress! Students who are meeting their goal minutes each month are growing leaps and bounds.  Thank you for celebrating with your students by printing certificates and encouraging them along the way.  Be ready to share your Lexia strategy/success story at our May staff meeting. We are also looking for ideas for school-wide recognition/celebration.

Please nominate your top three choices for the Principal's Award 2018 here.

Planning for next year:
This week’s focus of our quest to “get ahead” on year-end tasks includes:
  • Inserting F & P folder information - please save only the three benchmarking RR and be sure to write on the outside of the folder, as well as marking titles read on the inside of the folder.
  • Be sure to send a Google Calendar invitation to Kristen for our 30-minute grade level placement meeting. We are scheduling meetings before/after school, at lunch, or during your grade level common planning time May 9-18.

Volunteers are needed for our May 23rd Book Bonanza event!  Please let Kristen know if you are available to help!

Learning Lasts! Summer Camp Invites went out to students last week. Volunteer “camp counselors” (aka chaperones) are still needed for Binder Park Zoo (June 19),  South Bend Cubs Game (July 16), and Warner Camp (August 16).  Please let Kristen know if you may be interested in going along on one of these trips.

Kudos and Thank You to...
  • everyone's flexibility during the busy-ness of testing month! PHEW!
  • Hilary and Linda for their work to reimagine the Kindergarten screening experience.
  • Kathy for managing the SOC paperwork and questions that are coming her way.
  • Ben for his hard work to plan and prepare his students for the track meet.
  • Jamie and Rachel for bringing us joy and beauty through student creativity.
  • Classroom teachers for their thoughtful planning for next year's sections.
  • everyone on our amazing staff for making my first-ever Principal's Day one that I will forever cherish. You are simply the best!
