Kagan Corner
Dr. Kagan recommends a teambuilding structure twice per week to ensure that your teams feel safe and cooperative together. A simple Timed RoundRobin (4 people take turns talking for a specific amount of time per person) is an easy structure to add to your lesson plans on a consistent basis. Try a "Weekend Update"every Monday morning after the news. Students would each have 1 minute to share something special that happened over the weekend with their teammates. This is a great way to get to know your students while giving them equal time to share something special.
If you would like Kristen to come in and model a Kagan structure, please email her. Trust me, she would LOVE to! :)
Growth Goals
Please be sure to add a paragraph about the one or two goals you have for yourself this school year. We would love for you to add it to your professional portfolio by October 31st.
Classroom Visits
As I begin my visits to your classrooms I would love for you to remind your students that I am there to see the amazing work they are doing, so they should continue working hard as if I am not even there. The perfect time to say hello and to tell me stories is at recess or lunch, not when I am doing learning walks.
Absences
Please be sure to select Kathy as a person to notify when adding an absence to Skyward (check her name). Thank you for being sure to type the reason for your administrative directive or conference day in the box as well. Thank you!
STEM/ Maker Day
A message from Joe Rommel:
Greetings everyone! Berrien RESA would once again like to bring a STEM / Maker day to your students. As a quick refresher here's the plans from 2015 and 2016 to remind you of some of the activities.
Please take a moment and fill out this quick five question survey to begin our planning.
Thank you for your feedback so that we can plan the best day for our students!
Walk-a-Thon Update
Thank you for all of your spirit and cheers during our annual walk-a-thon. Here's an update...the early projections are very promising with about $16,000 earned for our school! Students and staff have collectively walked over 11,000 miles! WOW! All money will be due on November 10th and the prize drawing will be on November 17th at 3:20. This year students will tune in through the news. Volunteers will be broadcasting live to announce winners.
Severe Weather Drill CHANGE
Oops, I did it again...call me Brittany Spears. :) I apologize, but I distributed an old copy of our tornado drill procedures at the beginning of the year. The correct position for students is detailed in your "St. Joseph Public Schools Emergency Procedures Chart". Students should have their backs against the wall with their legs to their chests and their hands over their heads. Please let Kristen know if your need a copy of this spiral bound booklet.
CALLING ALL LOVERS OF SCIENCE!
We are in need of ONE Science Olympiad coach. Please let Kristen know if you are interested ASAP. There is a stipend! :)
